Single Mother Wrongfully Evicted

I’m a single mother living in Burnaby BC. I’ve been wrongfully evicted and needing support to help me get back on my feet. 

I’ve lived here for 2 years I’ve always paid rent on time. Only this month October 2020 I held the rent. ( I now know I was wrong)  Because of on going issues at the building, I asked the landlord to address it and meet me in person before handing over the rent. Instead, on October 3rd she issued a 24 hour notice of entry. I declined them entry over the phone. ( I didn’t know they had the right to enter) They stated entry between 4-6pm.

On October 4th I was not home. I ended up coming home with my two young children. As I’m approaching my balcony I see items thrown out. I try unlocking and getting in and my key is not working. I started to panic and tried getting in touch with the landlord. She kept declining my calls. I was desperate and reached out to the RCMP. Thankfully an officer arrived to assist on getting the landlord to meet me. 

I received  a call back but it’s not the usual landlord I’ve dealt with during the past 2 years. It’s her coworker. ( They both work under a company) He says he will meet me to change the locks but denies it was then changing the locks. It was late. He said he’ll be about an hour. I took my children to a family members before I returned to meet this other landlord. As he calls I ask him to wait as I’m just about arriving. once I arrive he’s already taken locks off. As I enter my 2 bedroom suite. It is completely empty. I bursted into tears. He stood there questioning me what happened and kept saying it was not them. 

I am feeling completely devastated. They took everything from us when we were barely making ends meet. The following day I asked if the original landlord who left the notice of entry can please contact me. He then got aggressive and stated “ I’m telling you I will be responsible with dealing with you from now on. “ I’m so upset, cause now she’s avoiding me. I have filed an application with the Residency Tenancy Branch.  My hearing isn’t till end of thisyear. Now the landlords have completely disregarded any communication with me. 

I know they won’t be returning anything. My 2 bedroom apartment is COMPLETELY EMPTY. We are having to stay elsewhere rn. I am really struggling as I am not working atm.  If anyone can help me out in any way. I’d really appreciate it. To help cover/ replace some things/ help with food.  Grocery gift cards will be a tremendous help as well.My chest has been so heavy and I’m feeling at my lowest having to be in this situation. I’d also appreciate any advice on helping me move forward from this horrible situation.
