Single Mother Escaping Abuse

5 Years ago I was introduced to a sweet soul, at the masjid in a class for reverts, we will call her Jennifer to keep her identity protected.  She was the most kind hearted person I had met, her voice was so soft spoken and you could just tell that she was an honest person. She and her husband seemed like the perfect couple. They always got along and never argued. Soon I learned this was all an act. 

The closer we became the more I noticed the way she was being treated. She was 5 Months pregnant, not working, due to a difficult pregnancy, and her husband up and left the country. He left her here alone to take a vacation, she was under the assumption that he would be gone for a week,  when reality struck, he didn't return for almost 2 months.

This was not the first time he made this choice to get up and leave on his own, it continued more and more, and when he would return the abuse would be so severe that she was not capable of staying any longer. 2 Years ago, he sent her to mexico, where she knew no spanish. he told her "youll figure it out" he forced them to move from place to place hopping from air BNB to air BNB, with giving her a limited amount of money and asking exactly where it was going. She had no job or any access to any funds. he held so much control over her that she was unable to save anything to get out.

Finally the day came when he was leaving home, and she started moving quick, throwing anything she could fit that was considered necessary into a single suitcase. She left behind mementos of her daughters lives, because the need to leave was so urgent and she had such little time to collect everything before he showed back up. A single suitcase contained items for 2 toddlers and a grown woman, a family member showed up, and they left. Without a car and $10 in her pocket.

After her husband kept her at home for the last 3 years to take care of her girls, not allowing her to work, she left without any source of income.

Since she left, She has been jumping from job to job to get on her feet but this pandemic has made it exceptionally more difficult, because she’s also a full time mother with 2 young daughters, the ability to work certain hours has kept her limited on what jobs she can and cannot take.

As hard as she has been working doing door dash and amazon flex, she just isn’t making enough to be able to get out on her own.

To make matters worse she’s currently residing in a toxic environment with family members where she doesn’t feel safe or comfortable. She has no other options right now because money is limited and is currently battling her husband in court which consumes most of her money. She sleeps on the couch and needs beds for her children. We have recieved an overwhelming response with donated clothing for her and her daughters but In order for her to get out and on her own she needs to start off by getting a car, to be able to get to work, as well as beds and other necessities to make it the first few months so she can work and save.

She has applied for government assistance and they have either denied or given her the very minimum. She’s reached out to homes for mother’s trying to get out of abusive situations and with no prevail has been denied or put on a waiting list.

Her husband is widely known in the muslim community so any and all her support with friends who may have been able to help her has been severed by him. This is her very last resort and is the last person to ask for any type of assistance. If you are able to, please help with even just 1$ or 2$ to help her get on her feet and move on with her two young daughters. If you have no ability to donate please say a prayer for her.
