Fundraising for Nicky's Funeral

On Tuesday the 15th of October mum passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 47.

It was unexpected and, quite frankly, shook the family - we weren’t ready to say goodbye.

As most know, this time last year, Mum was diagnosed with a glioblastoma - an aggressive brain tumour that had been missed after years of doctor visits. Mum wanted as much time as possible with us, so took the route of the most intense treatment; she had already undergone two brain surgeries and radiotherapy and was halfway through her year-long course of chemotherapy when she was taken into the hospital Tuesday morning with what we were told was a side effect of her chemo that could easily be treated.

Unfortunately, on Tuesday night, Mum passed away.

She was more than just my mum, she was a good friend and family member to everyone. She was always there for a cup of tea and a slice of cake when you needed it, and she always knew what to say - which makes it all the more harder to deal with as she's the person we all need right now.

In a way it’s good that this time came, because she left us as her beautiful self, not the shell of a person whittled down by rigorous chemo and a horrible brain tumour, and is now no longer in pain.

The family want to thank everyone who has reached out already, and also everyone who has supported us for the past year since mums diagnosis. It’s been hard, but your support made it easier for both us and for her.

We are currently in the midst of planning Mum's funeral, and because it was so unexpected, we are working hard to make sure it’s a memorial that does her justice.

I ask that everyone holds their family a little tighter today, and really tells them how much they love them because time really waits for no one.
