Fundraiser for Sheena Whitewing and her 2 children

Donation protected
On Saturday, August 10, my son-in-law, Scott Andrew Schaedel, died suddenly at the age of 43 from an apparent heart attack. Scott was a great father to his two young children; daughter, Arya (5), and son, Uriah (2). He loved his kids with everything he was. He was a hard-working husband, and treated my daughter, Sheena, as any father would hope. His death has left our entire family shocked and heartbroken and he will be missed terribly.

This is a tragic personal loss that is made worse by the financial struggles the family has endured in recent years. Because of those hardships, Scott and Sheena had recently moved back from Colorado to Louisiana. Unfortunately, Scott was left uninsured and so there are no benefits to assist with funeral expenses.

My daughter Sheena has been suffering with Multiple Sclerosis for over 10 years, to the point she isn’t able to be independent. She had been denied assistance through SSA and otherwise here in Louisiana, despite the help of a lawyer to establish her eligibility and get her covered. Because of the assistance my wife and I had been providing her, the system determined her not to be in need. We will always do everything we can for our children but circumstances have simply piled up to the point we are now the ones having to turn to others for help.

My family will face this tragedy and take on the responsibility to the degree that we are capable, however the downturn in the oil business in 2015 put both my wife and me out of work for the next couple of years. That, combined with caring for family members while trying to get by, we lost our retirement savings, are strapped with debt, leaving us already scraping by ourselves.

This fundraiser is to help cover the expenses of the funeral costs, as well as to provide much needed financial help to Scott’s dependents. Our family is heartbroken and humbled as we desperately try to prepare for both the immediate expenses, as well as longer term consequences we now must face.

Our family will be forever grateful for any help with this that we received. If you are able to contribute, know that we appreciate your generosity. Even more, know that we are comforted by the outpouring of love and support we are receiving from so many people. The loss of a beloved family member and friend isn’t something any of us are ever really prepared for.

In our time of grief, and with love and gratitude,

Andrus and family.
