Fundraiser for Mental Health and PTSD awareness
Donation protected
Mental Health issues and PTSD among the civilian population, along with currently serving members of the British Armed Forces and Veterans, are at an all time high.
I was inspired to create this charity challenge after seeing the affect these issues were having on one of my closest friends (who also served in the Royal Navy). I Train at the ardrossan community sports hub and with their help, have been able to organise and event to raise money for these issues.
The link to the Royal Navy is why there is a nautical theme to this challenge.
On Saturday 13th August (8am-5pm), we are running a 2 part challenge:
1) How many times can we cover the distance of the Suez Canal (120miles)?
2) Can we lift up (the equivalent weight of) a small warship (288 tonnes)?
Anyone can come along and take part on the day, you do not have to be a member of the gym. We kindly ask non-members to make a £3 donation on the day.
We will have set workouts available for you to follow or you can simply just do your own thing.
Whatever distance you cover doing cardio based exercises such as running, rowing and cycling, will contribute towards to 120 miles.
All weights lifted (think deadlifts, squats, bench press, etc) will go towards the 288 tonne warship total.
The gym will be open from 8am to 5pm and you can stop in anytime – no need to book in advance.
All proceeds from the event will be donated in a 50/50 split to the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity and to the Ardrossan CSH to help promote fitness and wellbeing in the community.
If you want to get involved just hit ‘Going’ and then come along on the day.
Friends and family are welcome to come along and take part too. The more the merrier.
The Suez Canal is an artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea through the Isthmus of Suez and dividing Africa and Asia. The canal is a route of trade between Europe and Asia and is frequently used by Royal Navy Warships.
