Drinking and Driving Awareness Project: Speaker

Donation protected
This year for our DECA project, we decided to choose the chapter project. For those who don't know, DECA is a competitive club based on business, marketing and community service. We decided to choose the Community Awareness Project. It didn't take long for us to come to an agreement on the topic we wanted to spread awareness for: drunk driving. There have been an immense amount of accidents, injuries and deaths that have resulted from drunk driving accidents by teens in our very own community. Multiple of these tragedies have been from students in our grade across numerous high schools in Omaha Nebraska. Drinking and driving has become relevant on a day to day basis and we believe it needs to stop. We decided we wanted to find a way to educate, inspire and bring awareness to our community through two co-speakers, Chris Sandy and Eric Krug. Two very different stories of drunk driving experiences and two very different outcomes.
Eric was a passenger in a car with an intoxicated driver. This car crashed on a college campus, killing the driver and leaving Eric with a traumatic brain injury, now limiting him to communicating through an iPad and living in a wheelchair. Chris on the other hand gives discusses the importance of choices, alcohol awareness, and learning how to persevere in life.  Together, they give a presentation titled "Choices Matter".
In order to have the opportunity for people in not only the Westside community but the Omaha community to come and listen to these speakers, the total cost for the inspiring duo is $4,000 (travel fees, lodging, and speaking fee). Along with the speakers, we plan to dedicate the week of January 20th-24th to drunk driving awareness. The extra money will go to t-shirts for the fundraiser, activities for students, and donating to TADD (Teens Against Drunk Driving Organization). We would appreciate and would be so thankful for any means of donation and we hope to see you on January 22nd at 7pm at Westside High School to learn more about the importance of drunk driving awareness.
