Burl (Wiggy) Gilyard, a long time fixture on the local journalism scene -- alternative, business and currently the Star Tribune -- has dealt with a debilitating neuro-muscular disease for several decades -- (Adrenomyeoneuropathy, complicated by addison's disease) -- and is now in a more precarious health situation. Good natured, erudite and humorous, Burl has been a passionate fan of Twin Cities music in spite of his mobility problems. Recognizing all this, his many friends have organized a benefit concert set for June 1 (2-6 pm) at the Hook & Ladder Theater/Lounge, (3010 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis, MN.) Those who are unable to attend are encouraged to contribute what they can to offset some of the enormous costs of Burl's on-going care.
