Fundraiser for booksellers affected by Covid-19

Bookshops are at the heart of communities across the country, and are at the frontline of the publishing and book world.

The Covid-19 crisis is hitting high street bookshops hard, and also their booksellers. That’s why we’re aiming to raise £50,000 to support booksellers across the UK and Ireland through this unprecedented crisis.

This money will go to The Book Trade Charity  with the intention that the money is used for hardship grants for booksellers affected by the impact of the Covid-19 crisis and economic downturn.

For every donation you make, publisher Penguin Random House UK  will match your contribution £1 for £1, up to £50,000 – including matching all donations made to the fund so far. So this means that if we raise £50,000 through your generous donations, a total of £100,000 will be made available for these hardship grants.

The Booksellers Association had already pledged £30,000 to The Book Trade Charity for bookseller hardship, and will now contribute this funding to this project, in order that we coordinate and focus all the funding in the place that can best deliver the help booksellers need.

Your donation will directly help those most in need of financial assistance.

How can I apply for support?

Grants are available to anyone who works in a bookshop in the UK or Ireland, who finds themselves in hardship as a result of the impact of Covid-19. This includes traditional ‘booksellers’ as well as staff working behind the scenes in a bookshop, such as cleaners or IT support staff.

The Book Trade Charity will administer all grants for people based in the UK on a case by case basis, and the Booksellers’ Association are exploring how this might be administered in Ireland.

To apply, please complete this welfare grant request form.

Thank you so much for your support.
