Fundraise for children in Namibia

Donation protected
Hi everyone, we are Naoise Ní Bhroin and Cian Devlin. We’re both studying Sport Science and Health in DCU. In April we are going to volunteer in Namibia for a non-profit organization called Wadadee Cares for three months. It’s based in a small town called Katutura, outside the capital Windhoek.

Many of the children we will be working with have been orphaned due to poor health/AIDS and have no access to medical care and healthy nutrition. Wadadee Cares aims to improve the lives of these orphans and socially disadvantaged children through volunteer programmes and community empowerment and development. It does this by providing them with education, enhancing their lifestyle and helping prevent future suffering and illness.

Our roles every day in Katutura will be to carry out tasks such as teaching the children English, helping with homework, doing PE sessions and assisting with their everyday care. We are both very passionate about sport and want to use our skills to assist in leisure and physical activities for the children in Wadadee Cares as they currently have no planned PE or sport in their lives. We have received generous sponsorship from O'Neills who provided us with sports equipment such as footballs, bibs, cones and hurdles which we will put to great use in coaching Gaelic Football to the children. This is a sport that has never been brought to Namibia before and we feel it is something that could help the lives of the children.

It is easy to forget the impact sport can have on developing lifelong skills, building friendships, self-esteem, leadership skills and gaining confidence to enrich their lives. Not to mention the fun, joy and happiness sport can bring us, along with the endorphins released through physical activity, which is vital for our mental health.

We are looking forward to giving our time to those who are in need and enabling the children to live a life beyond poverty, through sport and education providing a brighter future. With the help of any donations, we hope to make a huge impact on the community and individuals of Katatura. All funds raised will be going towards our participation and involvement in the area as volunteers for Wadadee Cares. We would appreciate your support, no matter how small, to help us reach our target. The price of one pint or a few coffees can go a long way to helping us reach our goal.

Thanks so much for any donation or support you can give, even a share on social media is greatly appreciated.
