Funding for Lansdowne Votes

“The vote is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democracy.”

GROWING THE VOTE

Did you know that, out of 35 first-world countries with free elections, the United States ranks a dismal 31st in participation in voting?  That’s a problem.  Because unless Americans exercise this very special right, too often our leaders don’t care about the needs of all our citizens.  We could even eventually lose the right to vote as well as the benefits of living in a free and democratic society.

YOU CAN HELP

Your donation to increase voter participation can make a difference!  Our organization aims to make Lansdowne, Pennsylvania a model of how to increase voter participation anywhere.

See what we’re doing:

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

In 2017 a small group of volunteers created Lansdowne Votes, a non-partisan organization with a mission: to reach every citizen of Lansdowne with the tools and information needed to get registered, educated and ready to VOTE.  We took to the streets with brochures, banners, and buttons stamped with our logo:  My Vote ~ My Voice.

We showed up at churches, schools and scout meetings, and community gathering places like our Farmers Market and National Night Out.

Our website, www.LansdowneVotes.com provides easy access to important do-by dates, non-partisan info on the candidates and issues on the ballot, as well as a link to www.votespa.com for access to registration and, new this cycle…application for Vote by Mail!   Our LansdowneVotes FaceBook page is the place for updates, news, and local events.

In addition, in previous election cycles we've distributed voter-information flyers through local businesses and schools, have placed voter-motivation banners in prominent locations in town, have provided voters the opportunity to look at sample ballots at our local Farmer's Market, and have been on hand to answer questions at numerous town-wide events.

TEACHING OUR YOUTH

Lansdowne Votes also recognizes the importance of teaching our next generation about how crucial voting is.  Working to create a culture of voting amongst our youth, we’ve reached out to classrooms and local groups to engage the kids with poster and video contests, hands-on exhibits, games and prizes, and Rock the Vote rock painting.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 has forced us to look for new, socially distant ways to reach and teach remotely.

NEXT STEPS

In advance of the November 2020 election, our goal is to provide voters with all the non-partisan information they need about the "nuts and bolts" of voting…especially important this year, with the new hand-marked balloting system and the learning curve that goes along with it.  Again, in the age of “social distancing” we need to find new ways to reach our audience, like sending catchy and super-sized glossy postcards to every Lansdowne household, loaded with useful information and a dose of motivation.  We also need funding for lawn signs and banners in this era of reduced face-to-face contact.

NOW FOR THE ASK…

And that’s where you come in:  To carry out what we feel is vital to our town, our nation, and our democracy will take time, creativity and cash.  We hope to raise $1000 for this mostly contact-free campaign.  Please consider donating any amount to help us carry on. And please share this with family and friends.  It’s that important.

When elections are free, fair and accessible to all, EVERYONE WINS!
