Pirates for abortion rights

Avast ye, and hi all!

We've been thinking about the people impacted by the fall of Roe v Wade in the United States. How abortion rights are under attack in many states. The cruelty of abortion bans undermining folks' basic right to privacy and autonomy over their own bodies. At this moment, people are facing 10-plus hour drives and worse, just to access abortion care.

And our thought is, why? And what if it wasn't like that?

That's why we, a group of Our Flag Means Death fans, have thrown in our lot to mutiny against these cruel laws and actions. If the law is cruel to our community, then we make our own way. One of the most powerful actions to fight for a just future, where everyone can access NECESSARY healthcare, is to FUND ACCESS.

All the funds we raise will be split evenly between the NNAF's Collective Power Fund and the Repro Legal Defense Fund.

Why this event: Another Damn Fandom Show's host and creator Leah Barr-Weber has more than a decade of experience in reproductive justice and rights work, including successful rallies and fund-a-thons. She has worked with repro justice leaders all over the country who know exactly how and where to put effort and dollars, to make the most efficient impact for patients' rights and needs. The Dobbs decision handed down on June 24 is a devastating one, and one of the best ways we can fight back is to put funds in the hands of those organizations that can really make every dollar go as far as possible. Local abortion funds, and legal defense support, have shown themselves for decades to be excellent stewards of these funds. With the support of multiple groups including Fandom Forward, we can leverage our combined power and experience to restore and protect abortion access.

About the NNAF : The National Network of Abortion Funds builds power with members to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersections of racial, economic, and reproductive justice. Member organizations work across our network to remove these barriers to abortion access. Some of them work with clinics to help pay for your abortion. Some of them offer support such as transportation, childcare, translation, doula services, and somewhere to stay if you have to travel to get your abortion.

About the Repro Legal Defense Fund : A person’s right to an abortion is protected by the United States Constitution, but many laws and policies keep people from accessing abortion care that they want and need. People who self-manage abortion — either because they can’t access a clinic, or because it’s the care that feels right to them — can depend on the RLDF to fund bail and provide financial support needed to mount strong defenses if they’re investigated, arrested, or prosecuted for ending their own pregnancy.

Your support for this fundraiser gives immediate, crucial logistical support where it's needed most. Adequate funding makes the whole difference between whether or not vulnerable patients can access abortion care, and the need has just become greater than ever.
