We are collecting funds to support the Fulton County Remembrance Coalition.
The Fulton County Remembrance Coalition (FCRC) has partnered with the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) to engage our community in a process of reconciliation with our history of racial terrorism. FCRC is committed to collecting soil at the sites of Fulton County’s 35 documented racial terror lynchings, erecting historical markers, claiming our monument from the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and fostering a lasting dialogue founded on truth and justice. Our coalition is a collection of diverse individuals who represent various communities and organizations throughout Fulton County.

All funds generated will support three distinct projects, each with guidelines set forth by EJI. Through the Soil Collection Project, we will conduct historical research to identify each of the victim’s lynching sites and collect soil at each site. Funds will support the cost of individual soil collection ceremonies honoring each of the 35 victims, a permanent exhibit at the Auburn Avenue Research Library to house the jars of soil, and a public unveiling ceremony of the permanent exhibit. Additionally, funds will support our public engagement programs. Next, the Historical Marker Project will place a marker at a significant location to memorialize the Fulton County victims of racial terror lynching. This portion of the project will also incorporate a social justice essay contest at a local public high school; the winner will receive a scholarship funded by the Equal Justice Initiative. Finally, through the Monument Placement Initiative, we will be able to claim Fulton County’s monument from the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery and place it in a significant location in Fulton County.

Our projects have educational, artistic, and soulful components - and it is important that we do them right. Fulton County needs a space to think about and talk about these issues. Through memorializing the 35 victims of racial terror lynching in Fulton County we can share the story of the oppressed. Through community engagement, we can listen to the story of those whose lives have been impacted by oppression. There is a common ground to be reached that is founded on truth and justice.
We sincerely appreciate your contribution! All contributions will go entirely and directly to supporting these efforts. 100% of the money will be used to provide guest speakers with small honorariums, marketing/printing costs, catering events, and creating and constructing our Soil Collection exhibit. FCRC is intentional in supporting local minority and women run businesses whenever possible.
