In cooperation with ReForm Shreveport and Shreveport Green, many volunteers have created enough sustainable habitats for 1000 fruit trees in and around our city. Sites for these trees include Highland Park, the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, Eden Gardens Elementary, the Community Renewal Center in Allendale, and many yards and other spaces. I will also be planting many trees on my family farm right outside town.
We will be purchasing trees from the Dorcheat Soil Conservation Tree Sale, which is a fundraiser for that organization as well. Tree types include peaches, pears, plums, apples, figs, blueberries, mayhaws and more. All trees planted in the public spaces of Shreveport will become public property, along with the many pounds of fruit they create! The average cost of a fruit tree is $10.00.
Please be generous in supporting this long term investment in Shreveport's future! And join the Shreveport Orchard Squad on Facebook or swing by The Levee at 520 East Kings Highway to learn more!
