From Cancer Survivor to Serengeti Warrior

Cancer never plays fair. At 40, it threw its aggressive curveball my way, a harsh reality I never expected. It was the hardest thing I had to do but I discovered a purpose beyond survival: protecting our planet and future generations from similar hardships.

This journey took an even deeper turn when, after genetic testing revealed no familial risk, the stark red stamp on my doctor's desk read simply: "Environmental." That single word connected the dots, painting a stark picture of how our environment shapes our health in profound, often devastating ways.

This journey took an exciting turn last week! I was chosen as one of 18 women to run the Singita Girls Run, in the Serengeti, Tanzania, a 21km daily challenge through the heart of nature's wilderness next November. But this isn't just about me pushing my limits. It's about running alongside 18 other passionate women who believe in empowering girls, women, and our environment, so our girls don't have to suffer like we have.

More Than Just a Marathon: A Mission for Change

The Serengeti is more than just a stunning backdrop. It's a powerful symbol of the delicate balance between nature and humanity. As I run through this iconic landscape, I'll be carrying the weight of a mission far greater than myself.

I'll be carrying the names of my warrior sisters who weren't as fortunate in their battles with cancer. I'll carry the stories of those you may hold dear, affected by this relentless disease. But I won't be running alone. I'll be carrying the hopes and dreams of everyone who believes in a healthier future for ourselves and the planet. I'll be running not just for the girls and women, but for the men who love them, the communities they hold dear, and for everyone who has been touched by cancer.
