Friends of Wray Park Open Space

Donation protected
The Friends of Wray Crescent Open Space (FOWC) is a group of volunteers who look after large parts of Wray Park in North London.
FOWC was established to increase the use of our community green space, to increase biodiversity (the variety of plants, animals, birds, insects etc.) and to help to create an attractive green space for our local community to enjoy.
There is a small team of volunteers who garden in  the Yvonne Connolly Garden where we grow fruit and vegetables. They are often to be seen along the main boarder that backs on to Thorpdale Rd, this is predominantly flowering plants with some herbs growing there too.
Some volunteers maintain the bark chipping pathway through the park. The path is essential in wet months to maintain non muddy access through the park.
The volunteers also have other large areas of the park where we grow flowers. FOWC cares for a tree nursery growing native saplings that are planted in and around Islington once they are large enough to survive there’s even a fruit tree orchard that we are establishing and maintaining.
FOWC is not all about the gardening and Park maintenance though.
During the spring, summer and autumn months we dream up and then host events in Wray Park to create opportunities for the community to come together, to enjoy the park and meet neighbours and friends there.
In the summer we arrange outdoor yoga and Tai Chi classes and for those less keen on the activities last year we trialled having musical evenings in the park. There was a Christmas Carol Concert in the Yvonne Connolly Garden just before Christmas 2023 that had a big attendance who came to sing along and to enjoy the beverages.
FOWC is not a charity, and while a couple of committee members kindly apply for financial grants and liaise with the council to help fund events we rely very heavily on donations from the public to achieve what we do.
Please know that we celebrate every penny we receive and use your donations to build on what we offer year on year.
To enable us to put on as varied a programme as possible that is freely available we need to fundraise £1000-2000 per year. If you are in a position to give us financial donations please do using our GoFundMe and if you have skills and/ or time that you would like to contribute please come and join us!
