The current movement in the United States has highlighted our own issues in Australia regarding the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders by both police and other state institutions, and we want to show our support however we can.
We have started a fundraiser for our own Indigenous people and Australian people of colour. It is important to give support to Indigenous communities across the country, in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
The donations raised will be given to both ANTaR in support of their Change the Record campaign (https://antar.org.au/antar.org.au/changetherecord) to address the disproportionate rates of incarceration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the continued violence experienced at the hands of police; as well as the Aboriginal Legal Service (https://www.alsnswact.org.au/) which provides legal support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders facing injustice and hardship.
We will be matching your donations dollar for dollar up until $1000. Please donate whatever you can, even if only a small amount. A little goes a long way.
