Freeland Flames Fundraiser - Oxford to Bath Ride

THE FREELAND FLAMES ARE BACK!

We are back & this time the Freeland Flames are hitting the road on Friday 4th August.

We will be tackling 100 miles of Cotswold hills as we head from The Oxfordshire Yeoman, Freeland to our final destination, The Royal Crescent, Bath.

We have collectively decided that this year our ride will be in aid of the OXAAA (Oxford Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Study).

In February 2023, one of the Freeland Flames, Matthew Eagle, tragically lost his father to a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.

There are significant hereditary factors involved in the condition and Matthew had already lost his grandfather to a ruptured aneurysm in 2001.

Currently, there are no drugs to treat an AAA and surgery is very risky. 80% of men in the UK will not survive a ruptured aneurysm and it accounts for 1 in 50 deaths of men aged over 65 every year.

The Oxford Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Study aims to improve the understanding of aneurysm progression in humans which will lead to new risk stratification strategies for patients with AAAs in the future.

The money received from any donations towards our bike ride from Freeland to Bath will be vital in enabling further research by OXAAA and hopefully help save many lives!
