Mission Trip to El Salvador

Dear friends and family in Christ,

Over the past few months, I have been in contact with a lay ministry, called Con-Solatio about undertaking a long-term mission overseas. Con-Solatio facilitates the call of young people to share the presence of Christ in the lives of those around them by living among the spiritually and physically impoverished. At the centre of it all is a deep call to prayer, exemplified in the routine of the volunteers out of which all other works flow, for if we do not fill our thoughts with the presence of God, we will be poorly equipped to share His love with those around us. Some practical works include visiting those in the local community, such as the elderly, those in prison or the slums, and creating a welcoming and faith-filled environment for anyone who may enter our lives.

I have been offered the opportunity to undertake this mission in El Salvador, the smallest country in Central America. By God's grace, I will be leaving at the start of October for fourteen months. In a sense, I undertake this mission ‘alone’ as I will be physically separated from you, but holistically I shall not be the only one undertaking this mission:

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” (Corinthians 12:12).

I am merely a part in the larger body of Christ, and so without you, my dear brothers and sisters, I will go nowhere. Therefore, I most humbly beg you for your spiritual and financial sponsorship. To travel and complete my time on mission, I will need to raise $871 each month and just over $5000 for travel and insurance costs. Certainly, no less important, I must beg you for your spiritual sponsorship. Spiritual sponsorship is a commitment to pray for the mission and me each day, ideally through offering a decade of the rosary. If you would like to support me spiritually, financially, or both, you will, quite literally, have my eternal gratitude.

Eternal gratitude aside, you will also be put onto a mailing list of people who will receive my letters every month or two about the experience and the fruits flowing from it all. So, if you would like to receive some letters, please send me your email alongside your donation.

Finally, I am already noticing something beautiful about fundraising: I am becoming aware I will only be in El Salvador because of God’s grace working in the generous outpouring of your gifts. I am merely charged with carrying out what you have put into action through your charity. Without you, this mission would not be possible for me to undertake, so please, if you feel called to donate, whether through a quick prayer, perpetual rosaries, or through a dollar or a thousand dollars, please answer the call; every bit helps.

Jeremiah 29:11 says,

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
