CALL TO ACTION !
by Pegasus Equine Guardian Association

Please help Pegasus Equine Guardian Association (PEGA) to ensure the Humane & Ethical treatment of the equines that have roamed Kisatchie National Forest for close to a century. They are at risk of being lost in the horse trading industry.

Efforts to help them will require dedication and donations from many people, working together. Keeping in mind that the welfare of hundreds of equines is involved, even small amounts donated from multiple individuals really adds up. So please help financially in any way that you can. We are raising funds to care for these majestic animals and to provide sanctuary and rescue. Included in this message is more extensive information about how your contribution can help.

While ANY contribution amount is appreciated, and you will be recognized as a Founding Equine Guardian for donating at this time; at least $20.00 would be very helpful toward meeting PEGA's initial goal of $5,000.00.
Here is all you do.

Step 2- Please email us at [email redacted] to let us know whose name you wish the gift to be in. (Our immediate Holiday Gift effort offers a way to send a monetary gift in the name of SOMEONE YOU LOVE) that is on your Christmas or Holiday list! We will reply back with a beautiful certificate message with yours' or their name, and thanks for becoming a Founding Pegasus Equine Guardian.

Step 3- You can print this certificate out for yourself, or and put in an envelope or frame and wrap for your loved one. It will be a lasting keepsake of and reminder of the horses we are working together to help. PEGA will also provide a 501c3 compliant receipt for your monetary contribution within a timely manner. Additionally, yours' or their name, according to your direction, will be listed with regular updates as a Founding Pegasus Equine Guardian on our website: https://pegasusequine.wordpress.com/

IMPORTANT: For tax deductible questions, please contact your tax preparer so they can help determine any tax deductions that may be available based on the following information:
1) PEGA is recognized with Non Profit standing by the state of Louisiana with EIN# 47-5680770. While PEGA has begun the process toward being a 501c3 registered with the IRS; as PEGA Articles of Incorporation state, PEGA will strive to operate in compliance with public charity under the Internal Revenue provisions of the U.S. Code with 501c3 compliancy.

2) With current Non Profit standing, until PEGA has the capability to complete all steps to become a 501c3 registered with the IRS, PEGA will need many contributors in order to assist with helping the Fort Polk Kisatchie National Forest equines over time. Therefore, PEGA shall pursue the following objectives including: To preserve and protect the horses and other equine animals that exist on the lands of Fort Polk (including the Peason Ridge area) and lands of the Kisatchie National Forest; to promote and establish rescue mechanisms and sanctuaries for wild or other equine animals; to facilitate programs related to the rescue of said equines in the event that their removal from Fort Polk, Peason Ridge and the Kisatchie National Forest becomes necessary. The donations can be used for any of the following purposes: Future rescue, fostering and adoption efforts, feed, hay, water, veterinary care or other equine care, resources, supplies or equipment, purchasing/leasing of facilities, shelter, land or equine transportation; as well as advocating for enforcement of Animal Cruelty Laws through legal assistance.

Together, we can spread awareness and realize successes toward our vision including the following: To advocate for proper welfare and stewardship of wild or abandoned equine animals (e.g., horses, mules, donkeys, and related animals) wherever they may be found, initially and specifically including those equine animals that exist within Ft. Polk (Louisiana), its training areas, including the main post and the Peason Ridge training area, and all such U.S. Military controlled lands in the area, and the lands of the Kisatchie National Forest, especially that part adjacent to Ft. Polk lands, and where wild or abandoned equine animals may roam. Pegasus regards that the animals of concern to it are primarily free-roaming or abandoned equines, whether branded or not, that range upon any lands, but especially those under the purview of the U.S. Military, the U.S Department of the Interior, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but not excluding such animals that range upon other lands.

PEGA shall pursue objectives including: To preserve and protect the horses and other equine animals that exist on the lands of Fort Polk (including the Peason Ridge area) and lands of the Kisatchie National Forest; to promote and establish rescue mechanisms and sanctuaries for wild or other equine animals; to facilitate programs related to the rescue of said equines in the event that their removal from Fort Polk, Peason Ridge and the Kisatchie National Forest becomes necessary; to endeavor to prove the eligibility for special protection as wild-free roaming wild horses and burros under the Wild Free-roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, or to prove that wild horses descended from historical American stock, such as Colonial Spanish Horses or Indian "mustangs", or horses native to geographical areas which are regarded as a special part of our American heritage and history; to prevent animal cruelty and abuse in any handling or transportation of equine animals, and to assure that none go to slaughter; to advocate for, and sue on behalf of, members of Pegasus who have a special interest in and connection to equine animals indicated above, any individuals who are of, or descended from, the "Heritage Families", whose land was acquired from them by the U.S. Government for the purpose of establishing Ft. Polk, American Indians, and others; and to facilitate communication with, and make recommendations to the "Heritage Families", other individuals with an interest in the equines, and all government departments, including the U.S. Military, the Department of the Interior, and the Department of Agriculture, that have jurisdiction of the lands on which the equines roam.

Other objectives include but are not limited to, the following: To establish and conduct participatory educational information through social media, radio, television and newsletters; to facilitate understanding by the public about the aspects of the status and treatment of wild horses, and other equine animals, in our American heritage and culture; to inform jurists, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers regarding matters of animal abuse, and to encourage courts to be mindful of the importance of serious and adequate administration in such matters; to protect and preserve the history of the Heritage Horses, especially, but not limited to the free roaming wild horses of the Peason Ridge and Fort Polk Army base area, and U.S. Cavalry horse and Heritage family descendants; and to strive for the establishment of new laws, and the modification of existing laws, that will assure the furtherance of all of the above stated objectives that are in compliance with public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue provisions of the U.S. Code, and therefore shall limit all aforementioned activities to those that are in compliance with that section.

Additionally, PEGA commits to showing donors the powerful impact that their monetary assistance collectively achieves by providing regular updates toward progress in the coming weeks and months. Please visit our website for more information :https://pegasusequine.wordpress.com/

Our website will contain information on the organization’s activities that donations help to achieve, including through the use of low stress livestock handling techniques; as well as advocating for enforcement of Animal Cruelty Laws through legal assistance. Most importantly, a safe place is needed, preferably in or near Kisatchie National Forest, where the remaining horses can at last live in peace with minimal human intervention and will be free from harm.

These beloved equines have lived, bred and raised their families in the wilds of Kisatchie for many generations now. Their ancestors toiled alongside thousands of people of varied ethnicity and backgrounds, who carved out rugged honest lives as farmers, ranchers, heritage families and military servicemen as far back as two hundred years ago. These beautiful animals and the people share a common indelible thread as the cornerstones to early Louisiana's rich culture in this area. They are all connected with the extensive lands with many habitats that would become known as Kisatchie National Forest. We all need to protect them because the land belongs to the people, and the horses belong to the land.

So please, get involved! These efforts can only result from efforts and the dedication of American citizens working together. We need everyone's help to achieve these goals! Please help financially and share out this message if you would. While we anticipate most of the organization’s contributions to come from individual donors or smaller groups who value the importance of animal welfare issues, we also look for assistance from foundations, corporate partners and estate gifts.

We are grateful for your concern; if you cannot donate, please share with others! The equines' welfare depends on our help. Thank you for caring!
