Wir, das heißt Kathi & Elio, möchten Ihnen unser Projekt kurz vorstellen.
Elio kam vor 4 Jahren aus dem Libanon nach Deutschland, um hier seine Facharztausbildung zu absolvieren und arbeitet nun seit 1 Jahr an einer Universitätsklinik. Kathi ist Medizinstudentin im letzten Semester.
Am 4. August 2020, während wir eine Sommerradtour in der schönen Eifel genossen, erreichte auch uns die schreckliche Nachricht, dass der Hafen von Beirut https://www.tagesschau.de/ausland/libanon-beirut-explosion-101.html explodiert war. Innerhalb weniger Minuten befand sich das "Paris des Orients" in kriegsähnlichen Zuständen und wurde weitgehend zerstört. Bilder, die seit 30 Jahren nicht mehr gesehen wurden.
Angesichts der derzeit schwierigen Situation in Elios Heimatland, haben wir uns zum Ziel gesetzt, bei der Planung unserer nächsten Radtour den Wiederaufbau des Herzen Libanons zu unterstützen.
Wie? Ganz einfach! Unser Abenteuer "ForTheLoveOfBeirut" beginnt mitten in Deutschland. Auf fast 4000 km werden wir insgesamt sechs verschiedene Länder Europas durchqueren. :)
Beginnen wollen wir unsere Reise im Mai 2021, losgelöst von der Covid 19-Pandemie. Ein besonderer Dank gilt unserem Arbeitgeber, der uns als medizinisches Personal trotz der aktuell kritischen Lage in den Kliniken Deutschlands, als medizinisches Personal freistellt und damit auch diesen humanitären Akt unterstützt.
Wir haben umfangreiche Recherchen angestellt und mit Freunden vor Ort gesprochen, um einen geeigneten Ort für unsere Spenden zu finden. Entschieden haben wir uns für das libanesische Rote Kreuz https://www.redcross.org.lb. Die Organisation unterstützt mehr als 10.000 betroffene Familien und arbeitet stetig daran, diese weiterhin grundlegend zu versorgen.
Wir freuen uns sehr über jeden Euro, der symbolisch für einen gefahrenen Kilometer pro Fahrrad gespendet wird. Diese Spendenaktion läuft bis zum 30. Mai2021 und liegt uns als deutsch-libanesisches Paar sehr am Herzen!

We, that is 《Kathi & Elio》 want to briefly introduce our project to you.
Elio came to Germany from Lebanon 4 years ago to complete his medical subspecialty training here and has now been working at a university medical center for 1 year. Kathi is a medical student in her last semester.
On August 4th, 2020, while we were enjoying a summer bike tour in the beautiful Eifel, we received the terrible news that the port of Beiruthttps://www.tagesschau.de/ausland/libanon-beirut-explosion-101.html had exploded. Within a few minutes, the "Paris of the Orient" was in a war-like state and largely destroyed.

Affected by the current difficult situation in Elio's home country, we set ourselves the goal of helping the reconstruction of the heart of Lebanon while planning our next bike tour.
How? Piece of cake! Our adventure "For the Love of Beirut" will start in the middle of Germany. We will cross a total of six different countries in Europe in almost 4000km. :)
We want to start our journey in May 2021, detached from the current Covid 19 pandemic. Here goes a special thank to our employer who, despite the critical situation in the hospitals in Germany, granted us, as frontline workers, a special leave to help support this humanitarian act.
After extensive research and speaking to local friends to find a suitable association for our donations, we decided on the Lebanese Red Cross
( https://www.redcross.org.lb). The organization supports more than 10,000 families directly affected by the explosion and is constantly working to continue providing basic care for them.
We are very happy and thankful for every donated euro, symbolically correlating with one kilometer ridden per bike.
This fundraising campaign runs until May 30, 2021 and is very meaningful to us as a German-Lebanese couple!
