Domestic violence ruins lives, and all too often, it takes lives. Tragically and suddenly, Marcos Bencomo lost his life as he attempted to intervene and stop a senseless act of violence. Marcos lived his life that way... he stood up for those who were unable to defend themselves. His heart was larger than life and now the hearts of his family are truly broken. 

Marcos was laid to rest today. His mother and family face unimaginable grief and disbelief, grappling with the shock and sorrow of a senseless and cowardly murder. They also face an unplanned financial burden, both immediate funeral expenses and pending costs for travel to and from a murder trial out of state. Funeral costs have already exceeded $12,000 as Marcos had to be transported from Colorado to Price, Utah for his funeral and burial. The murder trial will ultimately take place in Colorado (fortunately, the coward who took Marcos’s life was recently apprehended by authorities and will soon stand trial). Marcos’s mother will be traveling from Utah to attend. 

Many have asked how they can help... our goal is to at least cover the funeral expenses; beyond that, any additional funds will be allocated to the family to support the cost of travel to and from legal proceedings. The burden of time off work, travel, hotels, etc. is expected to be considerable for Marcos’s mother. We’d like to ease this financial stress if at all possible. 

Marcos left behind a life unfinished and a broken-hearted family. Domestic violence is never ok. While his death was horrific, he truly died a hero. If you can help his family, please do so. If you can’t, please learn all you can about domestic violence and spread awareness in memory of Marcos.
