Every year Susan and I and the staff of the Big Moose Inn select a local cause, non-profit, or an individual as the recipient of our annual Welcome Back BBQ charity event on the weekend of July 4th. Over the years, we have been asked by friends and family, how they can donate if they are unable to attend the event. We decided to set up this Go Fund Me account for that purpose. The event will be held on Sunday, July 10th, 2016 from 12pm - 3pm at the Big Moose Inn.
This year one of our own is in need of financial assistance to offset the medical, travel and recovery costs associated with battling cancer. Vicki's husband, Jeff "Foote" Ossont was diagnosed with esophageal cancer on January 25th, 2016. Vicki has been the Big Moose Inn's housekeeper for 32 years. Vicki's dedication and commitment through the years is at the core of why the Big Moose Inn is as successful as it is. Foote spent 16 years as the caretaker and bartender of the Big Moose Inn. He is currently employed by the DPW (Department of Public Works) for the Town of Webb for the last 20 years. He is a fire commissioner for the Town of Webb along with a member of the Big Moose Volunteer Fire Company for the past 30 years.
Foote is currently undergoing treatments and is scheduled for surgery in June. This rare form of cancer is treatable with radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. To date, he has undergone 28 radiation treatments and 6 chemotherapies. The results are quite encouraging and a positive outcome is expected. He still has a long road ahead of him, but his sheer will and positive spirit will help get him through this. We all know someone who has been afflicated by an unexpected medical problem, and we know that regardless of your circumstances, this comes with unexpected costs. Our hope is that through this go fund me account and our annual charity event that we can help them cover those expenses. Foote and Vicki are loved by all who know them. They are an essential part of the fabric that makes Big Moose the community that it is and it is with a sense of neighborly love we feel Foote is a great recepient of the 5th annual Big Moose Inn Welcome Back Social charity event.
