Food Secruity in Uganda during COVID-19 Lockdown

Donation protected
As some of you may know, in the summer 2019 I had the privilege of living in Uganda, teaching First Aid to local community groups. During my time there I met and worked alongside four amazing Ugandan’s who volunteered their time to help us educate others. I now have the privilege of calling each one of them lifelong friends of mine.

Whilst COVID-19 has affected us all, many of us find it difficult to overlook our own unfortunate circumstances to think of others around the world. Despite these unprecedented times affecting our way of life in the UK, we must be grateful that the government is supporting us where possible. Sadly, in many developing nations this is not the same case.

Uganda, like the UK, has been put on national lockdown. People are not allowed to leave their houses, public transport is banned, all food markets have shut, strict police have been deployed and in the majority of cases this means all family members are unable to work. Unfortunately, the Ugandan government is not providing financial aid to its citizens or healthcare workers affected, nor offering any help in terms of food distribution.

I have set up this page to help my friends in Uganda through the tough situation they are facing right now. I am stressed and worried for them and their young families, who should not be concerned with putting food on the table as well as their health. I would be incredibly grateful if you could help me support them - and I can only imagine how grateful they would be!

This is an anxious time for us all, but I encourage you to be grateful for whatever situation you are in and spare a thought of the millions of people being affected globally - the vast majority of whom will be overlooked by governments and be severely impacted economically, rather than just by the virus itself.

The death rate published will be nothing more than a fraction of the true cost COVID-19 has on a globe with inadequate health infrastructures, neglecting those who need its help the most. We can only hope that moving forward changes are made within the field of Global Health.

I would be extremely grateful if you could share this with your friends and family - to help our community help theirs!
