Food for Cusco

Due to Covid-19, Peru has been in quarantine for over 80 days. Restaurants are closed. Bars are closed. The tourism  industry is closed. Artisans and vendors that depend on tourists have now gone more than 3 months without income. In an effort to bring even a little bit of relief to families in Cusco, several community members (myself included) have been purchasing food to create bags of nonperishable items to hand out to families in need. As of Tuesday, 6/9/20, we have been able to help over 60 families, some of them more than once. Our goal is to help more families and to keep this project going as long as the quarantine is in effect or until the economy reopens to the point that our neighbors can go back to work. We are asking for your help to keep this project alive. We are not an NGO or non-profit organization - yet! While we are in the process of applying for 501(c)3 status, for the time being we are simply a small group of residents trying to give back to our community. There are NGOs operating here, but they are completely overwhelmed, which is why we are trying to help where we can. Providing food to even one family is a success.

The bags of food we put together cost approximately $20 USD each and include rice, quinoa, oatmeal, lentils, sugar, pasta, pasta sauce, cooking oil, soup mix, milk and juice. We also include a bag of produce for each family that registers with us to collect groceries. Items that are left over after we fulfill orders go to walk-ups. Anything you can contribute, whether it is $1 or $100, helps. With your support, we can help these families keep food on their tables and their children fed.
