Food Bank of the Hudson Valley emergency funding

This fundraiser is organized on behalf of the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley , which is in urgent need of funds to meet the increased needs of our community as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Funds will be used to hire additional staff, expand deliveries, rent off-site storage space, purchase supplies, assist agencies with the costs of the extra food they need, and purchase food to supplement its donated product inventory.
For every dollar donated to the food bank, they distribute $10 worth of food (the equivalent of four meals). So, if we meet our goal of $5,000, then we can enable the food bank to distribute 20,000 meals to members of our community.
Already, in response to the crisis, the food bank has:
- Continued to provide food to 235 of its school BackPack Programs, plus extra food, to ensure vulnerable children have the food they need
- Provided 20,000 meals to 1,200 seniors living in 20 senior housing sites
- Provided over a million pounds of food through daily distributions to partner agencies, helping them serve the growing number of people seeking assistance (enough for 850,000 meals)
- Provided 16,000 pounds of food (13,000 meals) for restaurant/hospitality workers who’ve been hit particularly hard by mandated business closings
The regional food bank is a huge operation that positively impacts tens of thousands of people a year. They receive donations of food from farmers, manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers—preventing food waste—and they have the unique capacity to warehouse and distribute massive amounts of food to the places and people that need it most. The food bank’s work is an essential (and major) piece of our collective efforts right now. Accordingly, our fundraiser is an urgent effort to help provide food security for Hudson Valley residents.
