THE OTHER SIDE OF CHRISTMAS
When the sleigh bells all stop ringing,
And the Christmas cards come down;
When your credit card comes calling,
And only Jack Frost paints the town;
With the good will slowly dying,
Like the needles on your tree;
When you thank your lucky stars
You've locked the door on company.
I sit crumpled in a doorway
But there's no-one left to see
On the other side of Christmas
Who spares a thought for me?
No choirs serenade me
In these bleak midwinter days
And the Poundland Santa's given all
His Ho-Ho-Hope away
No sympathy, no bonhomie
No charity, no cheer
And the food that you all threw away
Would feed me for a year.
I sit crumpled in a doorway
But there's no-one left to see
On the other side of Christmas
Please spare a thought for me.
Was Jesus Christ our saviour
Born on Christmas Day
To teach mankind to kick me.
And to leave me where I lay?
Merry Christmas, one and all.
