Food Bag Drop Off- A Grocery Bag relief
Donation protected
At the beginning of the pandemic, we were facing multiple unknowns. For some, it was the same unknowns as before like what to eat, or more importantly where to get food. Food insecurity had been on a decrease, but with the pandemic now being here for over a year, it is forcing at least 17% of households across the Chicago area to chose between either paying their bills or putting food on the table. Due to racial and ethnic divide, the south and west side of Chicago has always faced this battle of food insecurity; but with COVID-19 , the insecurity is a lot more. Which is why we are focusing on having a food bag drop off in the North Lawndale neighborhood, located on the city’s west side. The goal of this drive is to provide a bit more food for a community who has suffered from food insecurity even before the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope to accomplish this with a goal of making 30 bags, each costing $9.17 and contain the following items:
20 oz can of dole pineapple chunks
ritz with cheese
2.6 oz of tuna pack
16oz water bottle
one sleeve of crackers (individual packets were not found)
1 loaf of sara lee whole grain white bread
Mayo packets
Disposable utensils
8 oz of hand sanitizer.
And thanks to those who have already donated, apples and Lunchables will also be added to the bags as well. Any extra donations will help to either add more bags to the goal, or add more food to the already existing bags in hopes of giving those in the Lawndale community a bit more security of their next few meals in this already trying time. Any and every donation will be greatly appreciated. Below is a link that talks more about the food insecurity in the Chicago area brought on by Covid-19.
