Flood Disaster - Mullumbimby Tennis Club "Help"
Donation protected
My name is Adam Jeffrey.
I am a resident and local business operator of Mullumbimby.
I am a member of the local Mullumbimby Tennis Club.
As a result of the recent floods, the emergency response effort focuses on saving lives. Understandably clean food, water and shelter become the next main focus. Essential infrastructure follows, along with Schools and other government facilities such as hospitals.
We all appreciate this is a massive task, and we understand the Government and Community support that has stretched far and wide.
Repair of recreational facilities is well down the list.
The council owns the land that Mullumbimby Tennis Club is located on, but the maintenance and indeed any new infrastructure is left to the local community and the members to contribute.
The club provides employment of local professionals who derive their income from coaching children and running competitions for local players and players from neighbouring local government areas.
Fortunately, at Mullumbimby, the clubhouse was not damaged, but all of these courts have been damaged by the flood. The surfaces require replacement, and many peripherals such as nets and fences are also damaged.
Members have scrambled to make two of the courts safely available for coaching and play, but the balance of courts are damaged and are not safe for play.
The Mullumbimby Tennis Club is a perfect example of a “grass-roots” club.
In the 1980's Mullumbimby residents pooled their resources to self-fund the construction of the courts, the clubhouse and the surrounding amenities.
We seek assistance from the general public to help repair the courts, fences, nets, paving and facilities.
Recent quotations indicate that replacing the six (6) courts and associated fencing could cost more than one million dollars ($1,000,000).
While this is our target, all generous donations will assist with helping repair the facility will enable the children and players of our area to come together again.
Importantly it will also allow our amazing local tennis coaching professionals to earn an income.
Your support would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you
