It's official!!! I've been recruited to join on a project for the Georgia Peach Corps as a volunteer staff to help run field operations on the ground in Atlanta & running a program in partnership with Michelle Obama's organization When We All Vote! I am beyond humbled to be invited to join in this extraordinary effort.
Two more US Senate seats and control of the Senate will be decided in January 2021 in the Georgia runoff elections. These two races that will determine control of the Senate and determine the fate of our country. My fate. My future.
I am not leaving this up to chance.
Which is why I have given my 30 day notice to my landlord and packed my life into a shipping container. I am going to spend the next month and a half on the ground in Georgia talking to voters.
On November 18th I will be leaving Los Angeles and driving across the country to organize on the ground starting on November 23rd.
If we have any hope of winning this election it will be in on the ground grassroots organizing in the state. Voters have been fatigued from overwhelming phone contact since the beginning of the general election cycle. Our best chance of reaching voters will be meeting them where they are, in their communities.
I am willing to dedicate all of my time from now until the election on turning out voters, but I need help financially to make it possible.
The rental I will live in from Dec 2nd to Jan 10 is $5,460. It has 2 bedrooms and I will be offering housing to a few other less privileged young volunteers who are willing to dedicate their time to this mission. At this moment I have 2 young female organizers who are willing to leave their current jobs to join me in this fight, but they do not have the support system to make it happen without having the security of housing. It's going to take all of us.
The estimated the cost of food and gas for a cross country road trip and a month and a half of food is estimated at $1,500. The drive is 4 days and well over 2K+ miles. I've never driven that far on my own, but the way I see it, it's now or never.
The cost of renting a storage unit with PODS is $460 outright. The first month of storage (December) is included but the half of the second month (January) is $252. More so, the cost of shipping the POD out of LA is $2,300 and in the end it will be an additional $140 to have it delivered back to me. Since I will be leaving my apartment before the POD arrives I had to hire movers to load it up for $367.20.
We have to win back the Senate in order to make the changes we need to combat the effects of climate change. We do not have another 4 or even 2 years to wait. We fought for the Biden presidency and we must fight for the control of the Senate or our efforts will be partially in vain. I want to fight this fight. Will you join me?
