First Nation Homeless, improverished marginalized
Donation protected
In the city of North Bay, Ontario, Canada, our Indigenous homeless people have organized and participated to protests to increase awareness of the lack of clean, livable affordable housing for persons on OW or ODSP within our city.
We are a grass roots organization comprised of community elders, spiritual healers, and indigenous helpers with social work background and Phd in Indigenous Education and Sociology.
Our goal is to raise funds for our Indigenous homeless persons who, for whatever reason are not eligible for the services provided and other government funded non-profit providers.
We have used our personal funds to help pay for their meals, motel room costs and deposits. It is our hope to be able to provide funds to cover all costs associated with temporary shelter, including deposits. Often these deposits of one, two and three hundred dollars are the only barrier to acquiring shelter. We will also provide funds for those who without access to funds to pay for either room costs, or deposit. Should enough funds be donated, we will go to various hotels and submit enough funds on deposit and leave those funds in place to pay the security deposit for five or more rooms in perpetuity,
Furthermore, due to COVID-19 constraints, we are also humbly requesting financial assistance to help us lease an ethical space where we can engage in appropriately small and supervised social and healing support groups for Indigenous persons who are marginalized or impoverished. We are planning to conduct activities based on Indigenous Philosophy, healing methodologies and other activities to enhance their social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs. We would also to purchase new warm clothing like parkas to keep them warm.
