Fire & Flower Girls Rite of Passage

Help Fire & Flower raise scholarship funds for our 6-month program to empower girls into young womanhood! We have been approached by families in serious financial need (a mother & daughter living in the Vancouver Rape Relief Shelter, an Indigenous single mom hoping to provide a meaningful coming-of-age for her daughter, etc.) so we are asking for COMMUNITY SUPPORT.  Please give these girls the gift of being honoured in one of the biggest transitions of their lives, and the opportunity to step into womanhood with confidence in their unique strengths and beauty.

Our program, which starts May 2020, provides a holistic coming-of-age process through 1-on-1 mentorship, group sessions, ceremony and nature connection. Within a community of women mentors, participants explore topics such as body image, puberty, relationships, empowerment, sexuality and personal fears. The girls develop pride in becoming young women, gain valuable friendships and grow from individualized & community-based mentoring. Their learning culminates in a powerful coming-of-age ceremony in nature where participants recognize their unique gifts to bring home and contribute to their communities. Coming-of-age rites of passage were enacted by cultures around the world in pre-modern times, and Fire & Flower is a modern version of honouring this special time in a girl’s life.

Here's what participants are saying:
"It felt so good to be with other girls and know I'm not alone."

"After doing the program, I'm more clear on who I want to be as a human. I focus more on my mental & physical health, and know what makes me happy."

"I signed up for Fire & Flower just as something to do but it ended up helping me work through some feelings that I didn’t know I needed help with. But it wasn’t in a sudden way like just addressing it. It was through time and being in touch with myself."

"This is the only camp I've been to that I didn't want to quit by day 2."

Here's what parents are saying:
“Fire & Flower helped the girls discover what it means to be them and part of a community. It also provided a profound way for families to recognize their daughters - really see them - for the unique and powerful people that they are. My daughter enjoyed being challenged to own her place in the world with the support of strong, compassionate and authentic women.”

"She loved the camp and came home excited and bubbling everyday. She felt comfortable and included, something she has a hard time feeling in groups. This is a testament to the accepting and empowering atmosphere of Fire & Flower."

"The program was above and beyond my expectations. My daughter flourished, developed a positive sense of herself and grew so much in just a week. Our bond is now so much stronger."
