Fire & Flower Girls Rite of Passage

Help Fire & Flower raise scholarship funds for our 6-month program to empower girls into young womanhood! We have been approached by families in serious financial need (a mother & daughter living in the Vancouver Rape Relief Shelter, an Indigenous single mom hoping to provide a meaningful coming-of-age for her daughter, etc.) so we are asking for COMMUNITY SUPPORT. Please give these girls the gift of being honoured in one of the biggest transitions of their lives, and the opportunity to step into womanhood with confidence in their unique strengths and beauty.
Our program, which starts May 2020, provides a holistic coming-of-age process through 1-on-1 mentorship, group sessions, ceremony and nature connection. Within a community of women mentors, participants explore topics such as body image, puberty, relationships, empowerment, sexuality and personal fears. The girls develop pride in becoming young women, gain valuable friendships and grow from individualized & community-based mentoring. Their learning culminates in a powerful coming-of-age ceremony in nature where participants recognize their unique gifts to bring home and contribute to their communities. Coming-of-age rites of passage were enacted by cultures around the world in pre-modern times, and Fire & Flower is a modern version of honouring this special time in a girl’s life.
