My name is Linda and I am hoping to raise some money for my sweet dog, Finley, for his medical issues.
Finley is a 5-year-old Australian Shepherd and he has been having a very rough time since the end of July. He was initially diagnosed with right-sided heart failure and placed on 3 medicines. A week later, he was prescribed a 4th medicine. After that, he quickly went downhill. I thought he was dying on August 13th and took him to the emergency vet. He was quickly prioritized and seen due to acute respiratory distress.
He had almost 2 liters of fluid drained from his chest. It was determined that the heart failure diagnosis was incorrect and the medicines he had been taking had not been correct nor helpful for his condition.
Since then, he has had an echocardiogram that confirmed his heart is healthy. The following week, he had a CT scan of his chest and abdomen. He has a “walled-off abscess” in his lung that is of unknown origin. Surgery is likely necessary to address the problem and the surgery is expensive.
The University of Wisconsin Veterinary Hospital has performed both the echocardiogram and the CT scan and will do the surgery as well.
Finley has been deemed an “interesting” case and the doctors at the UW believe this is an isolated incident and Finley is an otherwise very healthy and happy dog who is expected to live a “normal” and active life post surgery and have years to play with his 2-year-old brother, Wilbur.
