Inspired by a dream to conserve wildlife and their habitats, Find the Birds: US + Canada is a unique mobile game concept created by 14-year-old Adam Dhalla. An avid nature photographer, gamer, and birdwatcher, Adam is the recipient of the American Birding Association’s 2018 Young Birder of the Year award.
“One of the things that strikes me regularly when I’m out in the field is the lack of kids,” says Adam. “It’s my hope that this game will get more young people interested in learning about and protecting birds and their environments.”
Players will search for birds and complete conservation quests in realistic habitats. Adam is partnering with the National Wildlife Federation — America's oldest and most trusted nonprofit conservation organization — and award-winning game development company Petricore, Inc., to build a game that entertains, educates, and inspires action.
Find the Birds: US + Canada will be available for everyone around the world, as a free download from the Apple App Store for iPhones and iPads and Google Play for Android phones and tablets (eventually, the game may also be available for PC/Mac computers and gaming consoles, such as PlayStation and Xbox).
From a US/Canada map, players will choose from simulated birdwatching locations based on real ones, such as Cape May, New Jersey. They’ll explore virtual forests, wetlands, grasslands, deserts, and beaches by swiping, tapping, and zooming. Songbirds, waterfowl, gamebirds, shorebirds, raptors, and seabirds will appear and disappear among the trees, clouds, bushes, and lakes. Players will quickly tap on birds to “find” them. Conservation quests to help birds, such as placing nest boxes, will also be featured.
When a player finds a new bird species, realistic illustrations and fun facts go in their field guide. Players receive coins for finding birds, with more coins for rarer species. Coins can be exchanged for items that will attract and help birds, such as bird baths.
The game will include interactive technologies that will encourage children to get outdoors and explore their natural surroundings to look for birds and get involved with actual conservation initiatives. Find the Birds: US + Canada will be an exciting way for people of all ages to learn about birds, their habitats, and how to protect them. Your generous contributions will help Adam’s dream come to life. Please help fund the birds!
If you contribute $500 or more, your name will be added to a supporter screen in the game once it is launched.
We are currently seeking sponsors and more partners and there are amazing benefits for a variety of contribution levels, including the opportunity to have a simulated, branded 2D replica of your organization's or company's store and product in the game!
