Financing "The School without a roof"

As part of a student-run organization project of the University of St. Gallen, we (Anika Raimondo, Nadine Aeschlimann, Loïc Noel, Nils Winistörfer) have been volunteering at Nekacheya School in Livingstone, Zambia for the past three weeks.

The primary school was established approximately a decade ago and grants 250 students access to basic education, starting from kindergarten up to grade 7. Grace Malabo, the founder and principal of the school is a truly inspiring person who has built and developed the school from scratch. Despite very limited resources and oftentimes facing economic challenges, she managed to pursue the project until this day due to her passion for teaching and her willingness to support the the Livingstone Community.

Currently, the construction of a second school is in full operation. However, due to the difficult economic situation the project has come to a halt, prohibiting even more students from getting access to basic education.

Thus, the purpose of this fundraiser is the following: Coming from a privileged part of this earth, we would like to collect the financial means necessary for completing the “school without the roof”, as we call it. This mainly entails financing the roof and thus to come up with the money for the resources such as metal and wood to provide shelter to the four new classrooms.

By doing so, adequate infrastructure is guaranteed and thus provides the foundation for future pupils to study, learn and attend class - an inevitable necessity for their future prospects. Furthermore, the project will benefit the current learners and support the community of Livingstone by fostering education.
