Fiji Volunteering - Think Pacific

Hi everyone, I am so excited to announce that in July 2018 I will be volunteering in the Fiji Islands with Think Pacific for 1 month. I will be joining the charity to help children in rural villages, in partnership with the Fijian government ministries of education, health, sports and youth. I would like to ask you to help me raise sponsorship/donations towards my fee's and enable me to make a difference by providing them with aid relief, improved education, health, opportunities and infrastructure.

I have chosen to volunteer with this charity as they make a real difference to the childrens lives. In feburary 2016, homes, schools and livelihoods were destroyed by the worst Cyclone to hit Fiji - Cyclone Winston.
Many are unaware that beyond the luxury resorts and into the rural communities the harsh truth is that poverty is an underlying issue. Over 75% of families live below the poverty line and only 50% have access to adequate sanitation and fresh clean water.

Just 5% of children gain an early years education and grow up with limited education. 400 schools were damaged and Think Pacific aims to replenish schools with resources, train teachers, increase sport participation, rebuild facilities, expand extra-curricular activities and improve the literacy of children.

So far, Think Pacific have manged to:
- support over 10,000 children
- increase sports participation by 600%
- complete 60+ building projects
- create 72 kindergartens
- increase school attendence by 15%
- improve literacy by 40% in 2016
- provide 180,000 hours of educational support for disadvantaged children.

The expedition will be an exciting life-changing challenge for me, I will be going back to basics by joining a Fijian family with a lack of electricity, no internet and using cold bucket showers for 1 month. I will be developing the education in a school and kindergarten, coaching sports such as Rugby and netball, leading 'the house cup' and providing one-to-one tuition (All very new to me!). I personally hope to also improve knowledge of nutrition within the rural communities too.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and if you would like to sponsor me for this adventure and help this charity it would be extremely appreciated. I will be running a few charity events in 2018 to raise money and will be taking part in a sporting event, so watch this space!

Vinaka (Thank you)! x
