The Mu Chi Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta at James Madison University is proud to present our Annual Crawfish Boil philanthropy event on Saturday September 30, 2017!
We started this event four years ago when one of our brothers at the University of Maryland, Kyle Greaver, was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a primary bone cancer that affects mainly children and young adults at a time when their bones are rapidly growing. Kyle kept a positive attitude throughout his chemo and radiation treatments and did whatever he could to keep pushing forward. Unfortunately he lost the battle, but we as Phi Gamma Delta brothers are priveleged to join the fight towards finding a cure.
Our goal is to honor those who have lost the battle to cancer and help those currently in the fight. Millions of families worldwide are affected by cancer and we want to take it upon ourselves to do what we can to help those who are fighting. Also we would like to donate in honor of our new philanthropy Camp Kesem.
Camp Kesem is a nationwide community, driven by passionate college student leaders, that supports children through and beyond their parent’s cancer. Camp Kesem operates over 100 free summer camps in 40 states for children ages 6 to 18 who have been impacted by a parent’s cancer. Kesem programs have a lasting impact on children by providing them a peer-support network that understands their unique needs, builds confidence, and strengthens their communication skills. In 2017, Camp Kesem served over 7,200 children coast-to-coast - all funded by generous donations from individuals and corporate support
