Help Me Take the Fight for the Excluded to Every Party Conference

For more than five years, I’ve been fighting as part of Excluded UK – standing up for the millions of people who were left without meaningful financial support during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a freelancer in the live events industry, I was one of the first to see my work disappear overnight, and one of the very last to return to employment. Like many of you, I’ve felt the devastating loss of income, and I’m still struggling to catch up while also facing the added pressure of the cost of living crisis.

Despite those challenges, I refused to give up. I became a constant voice for the Excluded community – speaking to MPs, raising awareness in the media, and never letting this injustice fade into silence. I’ve been called relentless, and I’ll take that as a badge of honour. I’m proud to say I’m recognised by MPs across all parties, and by MSPs in Holyrood too, as someone who never stopped campaigning.

Up to now, most of the costs of this campaigning – travel, conference attendance, meetings, events – have been paid out of my own pocket. But the truth is, I can’t keep carrying it alone.

This autumn, I want to make sure the Excluded community is represented at every major UK political party conference. These conferences are where future policies are shaped, where journalists and decision-makers gather, and where we have a chance to make sure we’re not ignored yet again.

What I’ll Be Fighting For

At every conference, I’ll be pressing the case for our three clear demands:

An Apology – from the UK Government, recognising the injustice and detriment suffered by those who were excluded from Covid-19 financial support.

An Assurance – that both the UK and Scottish Governments will ensure taxpayers are never overlooked again in any future financial assistance during forced lockdowns or similar crises.

Financial Parity – between the UK and Scottish Governments, delivering financial redress that backdates the same level of support to the excluded as the rest of the UK’s taxpayers received.

Getting to all the conferences means covering the costs of travel, accommodation, and access. For the past five years, I’ve managed this myself – but now I need your help.
