Hi there =) My name is Squiggly and I'm a baby girl Frenchie and I was born with a cleft palate. I arrived in the world on July 22nd to my awesome parents, Honey Comb and King Tut. I was born 4th of my brothers and sister. All of my brothers and sister were born healthy puppies but I had a small birth defect. I was born with a cleft palate. The roof of my mouth did not completely bond together and the vet said I had a slim chance of survival. My grandpapa had to make a choice on my destiny even though the vet’s suggestion was to have me put down. He said that most cleft palate puppies don't survive or "Breeders" don't take the time for them. Well...my grandpapa has a big heart and he told the Vet, "I'm not here to claim myself as a breeder, my babies had natural conception (most people think Frenchies can’t conceive without insemination), I'm also not here to make a career out of it. I have a job that takes care of us already”. Sometimes when our family grows it does make it difficult to provide for us all with special care and cover the surgery/vet bills.  My grandpapa told the Vet I was coming home and we were not going to give up the fight for my survival. I was the tiny girl and struggled trying to feed off my mama. I could not eat enough unless I was tube fed. My Grandpapa made me a syringe style feeding tube to help me. He stayed up many hours watching over me and making sure I didn't cough up my food and drown in it. He was worried since I also have a high risk of getting pneumonia if my liquids come back up down the open nasal passage I have on the roof my mouth. L That was also a concern for all of us.

I had a difficult 1st couple weeks not being able to see what I was doing. Besides trying to feed off my mom, I also missed out on my mommas milk and her nutrients. My Grandpapa did his best to get me my food and the best milk supplements he could find. I finally reached the age where we all opened our eyes and I started to walk. I was a shaky little girl, hence why my grandpapa gave me my name Squiggly =) While my Brothers and sisters continue to grow and feed they continue to get bigger and bigger. I tried my best to be tough like them but they would puppy pile on me. This would keep me warm at night. J I reached a point where I tried to do things on my own like drink water. I unfortunately was not successful and had to continue to be monitored and tube fed =/. As time went on, we finally had to go get our 1st set of shots. Ouch! We all weighed in : my brother and sister weighed 5.4lbs my 3rd brother was 4.8lb and I was only 2.4 lbs. I may be tiny but I had the spunk and heart that I didn't know the difference. I started to bark and give the orders around the den area. J As time went on, my Grandpapa knew the time was coming for us to find new homes. When my grandpapa shared my pictures with friends, I was a hit! I was the talk of the internet. Everyone wanted me to take me home. There was a small problem though, nobody was capable to take care of me being so little and in needing of special feedings.

Then one day, my Grandpapa got a phone call from some friends asking about my brother and sisters. They were interested in them. They wanted to finally open their hearts to a new puppy. They had a devastating time losing both their English Bulldogs kiddos within a 6 month period after putting one down the last one through 9 months of chemo treatments for her lymphoma. It really hurt them to lose their babies.  After grandpapa heard their story. He knew he found my new mommy and daddy. J He offered me to them in one consideration, that they allow me to have my cleft palate fixed. He wants me to be a healthy new puppy for them. Even though I have the little problem, they still fell in love with me as I did with them.  I went to visit a specialist in Irvine, CA to see about fixing my cleft palate. When I walked in everyone was so in awe to see me and wanted to hold me; typical Frenchie puppy problems. J  After having a specialist view me over, they said my cleft palate was surgically possible to fix. :D My grandpapa looked at his finances and we are just not capable of pulling this off right now. They recommended us do this sooner rather than later, so we are now looking for other sources to have the surgery done as soon as possible.  My surgery is estimated to cost from $2300-$2600. This will allow the vets to go inside and bond my roof of my mouth closed. After this I could be a normal puppy. I can then go to my new home and my Grandpapa will be so happy to see me grow up to be as strong as my brothers and sister. My Grandpapa is making the effort to get me fixed and make my new mommy and daddy's life part of mine. After their story he didn't want me to continue to add to their vet bills. They fell in love when they came to visit me and fell in love with my brother too so they took him home. He is already living with them. I realize he's gone now and I miss him. If my story reaches your heart, I'll be able to move in with my big brother soon and he can watch over me in the big yard they have. I could live a normal life like him and hope to grow up to be the cuter and tougher sibling. I have the heart and spirit and I have not let my defect slow me down. I've been trying to eat my kibble but I eat really slow. It is still not enough though and I continue to need to be tube fed. When I need water I need help to be tube fed also. Please help me get home to my new parents and big brother. J
