About 50 years ago, a boy was born to older unstable parents. Within a year his father died and his mother remarried an abusive alcoholic. My cousin, this boy, is named Boban and this is a short story of his life and, I am hoping, how we can all help to change his future and future of his kids.
As a young boy deprived of most of the basic needs in life he found comfort in his aunt who cared for him and shared what little she had. In 1991 the war started in former Yugoslavia, and its destruction was immeasurable. After the war ended life in a recovering country was tough and for Boban it was even tougher as he had no education and no work experience. His aunt, once again, took him in and helped until she died. During this time he found a wife and had three children. They all lived in his aunts house, a two room shack with no indoor plumbing and no heat.
We take for granted the things we have, like a house, heat and food. Everyone on this Earth should feel the same way but unfortunately they do not.
As the economy in Bosnia improved, Boban’s life did not move forward despite his children getting older.
The Church and villagers are banding together to build a new home for Boban, to provide them with better living conditions. To build a new 4 room house it will cost approx. $30,000.
I ask that you consider a gift that will provide hope and above all else something we take for granted: a warm place to call home.
