San Diego Community Birth Center fights a crisis

First of all, thank you. Thank you to my San Diego Community Birth Center family and my support network for helping me get this far. We are working hard every single day to save Black and Brown birthing folks in our community.

I am a licensed midwife in California, and I am only one of three Black midwives in San Diego county. Currently, there are birth centers in Poway, Point Loma, Pacific Beach and Fallbrook, which are all wonderful spaces, and, with your help, I have opened San Diego Community Birth Center in the Hillcrest/Banker's Hill area. We focus on making services available to everyone, with our focus on the wider community of marginalized people: Black and Brown birthing people, trans and queer birthing folx, LGBTQIA2+ people. Every body.

The Black Maternal Health crisis affects ALL of us, not just Black birthing folk.

Our birth center provides an environment that is safe, warm and welcoming environment to birthing families and their supporters. Our birth center is not only a community hub, but a way to offer the collaborative care model that the Midwifery Model of Care supports.

We offer reproductive health care to those who may not have insurance or who want to care for themselves outside of the hospital system. We offer a learning space for student midwives, doulas and student nurses. We offer support to our community's teenagers by providing sex-positive, consent based education about their bodies and how to care for them and each other. I help build families by offering IUI services. We educate folks about family building and open up the world of Midwifery to everyone. The funds raised will be used to continue to support the birth center and our Families of Color in this ongoing Black Maternal Health crisis.

People who need reproductive healthcare need to know that they have options! Birthing folk need to know that they have options!  You have options in how you birth, where you birth, where folks get their reproductive health care, preconception and fertility care and where they seek their education and community support. Please help me to continue our work as a centrally located, inviting community hub where all families are supported. I am so very grateful and deeply honored by your support.
