Fashioning the Self magazine (Issue 2)
Donation protected
I am excited to announce the publishing of the second print edition of Fashioning the Self in Slavery and Freedom. The magazine will feature writing, photography, and other artistic work by friends and colleagues of the founder of the site Jonathan M. Square. Afro-Brazilian scholar and curator Hanayrá Negreiros wrote the cover article, which explores Afro-Brazilian dress through the lens of her family history. Her partner Felipe Torres shot the cover image. The photograph of the deity Kaya (Iemanjá) was taken at Redandá, a Bantu temple in Brazil.
The magazine will feature a number of other articles and photography by my friends, colleagues, and supporters of the site. Want a copy? Make a contribution of at least $20. A contribution of $40 or more gets you copies of both the 1st and 2nd editions. A contribution of $50 or more gets you copies of both the 1st and 2nd editions as well as a Fashioning the Self tote bag.
