It is difficult to disentangle our priorities and intentions when taking action against racism. Though we must educate ourselves on the roles of White privilege and supremacy through reading, listening, unlearning, and relearning, direct action is necessary now. It may feel tempting to fill spaces with our words or repost hopeful or poignant quotes, but the ways White people can make themselves the most useful right now are to use privilege to:
1. Redistribute money to Black people
2. Shield Black people from police in the streets
As #2 is not an option for many, the redistribution of your funds is a vital and impactive alternative, one Black people should not have to ask for by revealing their personal hardships and traumas. Money donated to this fund will go directly into the hands of Black femmes/womxn in Fairbanks, Alaska. Currently teamed with the Black Femme Fund in Anchorage, this collective effort in Alaska will provide money to Black femmes during this time of cumulative and continual trauma endured and faced every day. Many donations are going OUT of state right now, but there are Black people in our communities struggling here as well. The funds will be utilized by Black femmes in Fairbanks however they see fit to help themselves survive and thrive, whether that is through paying rent, bills, therapy, or treating themselves to a much-needed break. Put your money where your heart is, raise your community up, and use your privilege to directly combat systemic oppression.
