My name is Janette, and I have been friends with Diane, Ben's mom for 20+ years.  Way before Ben was born.  Ben was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in September 2013.  On June 30, 2014 he received his last dose of chemo, and celebrated his no evidence of disease in September of 2014.  However, Ben recently had his six month scans, which came back unfavorable.  On Monday, January 19, 2014, Ben's doctor told Diane that the Rhabdo is back, and it has spread throughout his body.  They are hoping to get him into a clinical trial, and have to do another PET/CT and Bone Marrow biopsy in order to stage him.  What the doctor said (paraphrased) is that because it has spread to both legs, through his lymph nodes, and shows progression of the disease in his upper chest to his back, is that the chemo he was receiving did not kill the rhabdo, but slowed the progression of it.  Diane is a single mom with two boys.  Rob (Ben's older brother) and Ben.  Diane is fighting hard to find alternate treatments.  It is my hope that if we are able to raise enough money, Diane will have the funds available to be able to pay for any treatments available.  BUT to also ensure that Ben has quality of life, if in fact the treatments are not effective.  You can learn more about Ben and his story on Facebook called, "Facing Ben's Giant".
