Support Fabiano's Release!

On January 9, 2018, Karah and Fabiano de Oliveira arrived at the USCIC office in Lawrence, MA for a routine interview to substantiate their two-year marriage and 7+ year relationship. Following the interview, the prerequite form to obtain Fabiano's green card was approved. Despite assurances that the process would go smoothly, Fabiano, a hard-working, law abiding, and loving father and husband, was abruptly taken into ICE custody, much to the extreme surprise and anguish of his United States born wife, Karah. That day, Karah was forced to go home to her 5-year-old son, Christian, without his father, something she never fathomed would happen.

The ensuing days have been a nightmare for the family, but the community of support for Karah, Fabiano, and Christian has been overwhelming. I started this GoFundMe as a long-time friend of the family because I felt that we had an opportunity to shine a brighter light on this issue, because of the outreach and support that Fabiano's story has already spurred. Whatever funds are raised will go directly toward Fabiano's legal fees and all the bills and expenses that have piled up in his absence. We hope to welcome Fabiano back in the coming weeks, and allow him to settle back in with as little financial worries looming as possible.

Fabiano remains in ICE detention, though legal proceedings are underway to fight for his release. Fabiano is a Brazilian native who came to United States in 2005 to build a better life for he and his family, having little opportunity at home. He has never been arrested or charged with a crime anywhere in the world. He has worked hard to build a life and a family here. In 2010, he began dating Karah, and they had their first child in 2012. Christian is Fabiano's pride and joy. He tells Karah that the hardest part of this whole ordeal for him has been being away from Christian.

Fabiano has built his life here as an open and active member of his community, working as a painter in recent years. He was merely embarking upon a lawful path to citizenship while attending the USCIC interview, as part of the process to adjust his citizenship status through his US citizen wife and child. As he was exercising the rights granted to him and other similarly situated undocumented immigrants, he was plucked from his family and his community by ICE, who has made no efforts to contact him in the 13 years that have preceded the interview.

We sincerely hope that you will consider donating to the worthy cause of keeping families together!
