Evacuation: Labeba and her family deserve to live

My name is Evelyne Diaz Araque and I am a Clark University alumna. I opened this campaign with the help of friends, Hannah Mittenberg, Caitlin Schubert, Sarah Vacca, and Jaysa Jordan to raise funds to evacuate my friend Labeba who is currently 9-MONTHS PREGNANT, along with her two young children, husband, two younger siblings (18 and under), and mother from Gaza. Labeba is 9-months pregnant, and the entire family is suffering from malnutrition due to lack of access to food and water, so we’re trying to accelerate this project with the utmost urgency out of fear that Labeba will give birth with no access to medical care and anesthesia under the constant bombing and the threat of a ground invasion. Oftentimes, Labeba and her husband must sacrifice the little food they have to give to their kids (under 6 years old) and Labeba’s younger siblings (11 and 18 years old). I have personally known Labeba for over 4 years; I connected with her through an aid network that a friend runs with the help of locals in Gaza. The selflessness, strength, positivity, and hope that Labeba has always demonstrated in the face of so much brutality is more than one mother should ever have to live through.

It is because of this that myself and my team are calling on our community to help us get this amazing family to safety so they can get access to healthcare, food, clean water, and finally have a bed to rest in after over 6 months of what can only be described as a nightmare. It can be easy to sit in the comfort of our own homes and feel helpless as we read and watch what is unfolding in Gaza right now. So if that is you, then I ask you to channel that energy and help us get this remarkable family of seven (3 adults & 4 children) out of a war zone, and quite literally help them survive.

If 795 people donate $50 each we will reach our goal; if you cannot commit to $50, consider telling your friends about this evacuation effort and ask that each donate $5 or $10! All it takes is to give up 2 coffees at Starbucks/Dunkin one day to be able to send $10. It only takes minutes to send this campaign to a friend who also wants to do something tangible to help those in dire need.

What these funds will cover:

Since we are raising such a large sum we want to be as transparent as possible. Crossing the border into Egypt will take place roughly a ~month from the moment registration is complete (and we’ve raised the funds) which is a complex bureaucratic process; therefore, we must act fast before Labeba gets into labor:

Labeba and her family lived in Northern Gaza and like millions of others they were forced to escape to the South to stand a chance of surviving the constant bombing, they have truly lost everything. The family has been forced to displace THREE TIMES since the war erupted; from their home in Beit Lahia to Jabalia refugee camp, when Jabalia was bombed they were displaced again, they have been in Rafah since then, and now (03/27) had to displace again within Rafah due to continuous bombing. On Feb 2nd, Labeba was notified that their home in Northern Gaza was bombed, and they lost not only all their possessions and belongings but many family members and friends. This has forced them to take shelter in a tent in Rafah. So please, if your life won’t change by giving up $5, $10, $20, $50, please help us get our friend and her family out. They deserve a chance to a normal, safe, and humane life. They are shattered hanging on by a thread, and we refuse to sit still without trying everything we can to save them and we hope you will help us.

He abierto esta campaña con la ayuda de mis amigas, Hannah Mittenberg, Caitlin Schubert, y Sarah Vacca, con el fin de recaudar fondos para evacuar de la Franja de Gaza a mi amiga Labeba que tiene NUEVE MESES DE EMBARAZO, junto a sus dos hijos (4 y 6 años), esposo, dos hermanos (12 y 18 años), y madre. Labeba está embarazada y toda la familia padece de malnutrición aguda ya que no hay acceso constante a comida y agua potable. Estamos tratando de acelerar esta campaña con mucha urgencia ya que tememos que Labeba de a luz sin acceso a atención médica y anestesia, bajo los bombardeos constantes y la amenaza de una invasión terrestre por parte del ejercito Israeli. Muchas veces, Labeba y su esposo han tenido que sacrificar la poca comida que tienen para poder alimentar a sus hijos y a sus hermanos menores.

Yo conozco a Labeba por más de cuatro años. Me conecte con ella a través de una red de ayuda que un amiga cercana dirige en Gaza con la ayuda de gente local. La fuerza, el optimismo, y la esperanza que Labeba siempre ha demostrado frente a tanta brutalidad es más de lo que una madre debería tener que vivir.

Es por eso que mi equipo y yo estamos haciendo un llamado de ayuda a nuestra comunidad para que nos ayuden a llevar a un lugar seguro a esta maravillosa familia, para que tengan acceso a cuidado médico, comida, agua potable y que finalmente tengan una cama para descansar después de seis meses de lo que solamente se puede describir como una pesadilla.

Es muy fácil sentarse en la comodidad de nuestros hogares y sentir impotencia al leer y ver lo que está pasando en Gaza en estos momentos. Si te identificas con ese sentimiento, te suplico con mucho cariño que canalices esa impotencia y nos ayudes con esta forma tan tangible para sacar esta extraordinaria familia de una zona de guerra, y literalmente ayudarlos a sobrevivir.

שמי אוולין דיאז ארקה ואני בוגרת אוניברסיטת קלארק. פתחתי את הקמפיין הזה בעזרת חברותיי, האנה, קייטלין ושרה, כדי לגייס כסף על מנת לחלץ מעזה את חברתי לביבה שנמצאת כעת בחודש ה-9 להריונה, יחד עם שני ילדיה הקטנים, בעלה, שני אחיה הקטנים (בני 18 ומטה), ואימה המבוגרת. לביבה בהריון מתקדם מאד, וכל המשפחה סובלת מתת תזונה אקוטי בגלל המחסור הכבד במזון ומים ברצועה. בשל כך, אנחנו מנסות לקדם את הפרויקט הזה בדחיפות המרבית מתוך חשש ממשי שלביבה תלד ללא גישה לטיפול רפואי או אפידורל תחת ההפצצות הלא פוסקות והאיום של פלישה קרקעית. לעתים קרובות, לביבה ובעלה נאלצים להקריב את מעט האוכל שיש להם על מנת לתת לילדים שלהם (שניהם מתחת לגיל 6) ולאחים הקטנים של לביבה (בני 12 ו-18). אני מכיר אישית את לביבה למעלה מ-4 שנים; התחברתי אליה דרך מערך מזון שחברתי מנהלת בעזה בעזרת מקומיים. הכוח, האופטימיות והתקווה שלביבה תמיד הפגינה מול כל כך הרבה אכזריות הם יותר ממה שאמא צריכה אי פעם לחוות בחייה.
