Escape war in Ukraine
Spende geschützt
Hi, my name is Michael(Brooklyn, NY) and I am fundraising to help my father escape the war in Ukraine(Chernivtsi, Ukraine). His application for permanent residency in the US was approved in February right before the war started. However, the US embassy in Ukraine was shut down and he wasn't able to pick up his granted immigrant visa. He could've just gotten his granted immigrant visa at any European US embassy if men weren't denied to exit Ukraine.
I was lucky enough to get my mother out to Romania, then to Germany where after a month-long process she got her US visa.
All these months my father has been patiently working at the Ukraine Postal Service until the situation started escalating to a new level. The postal management gathered military cards of two dozen workers with a stated objective to reserve them from military drafting as essential workers. A few days later all two dozen were picked up and sent by force to the war zone, many already killed.
Yesterday my father's military card was copied and the next day he received a notice to appear to the local military administration. He is 57 with multiple health issues and cares for his 93-year-old father. The local military administration ignores any health issues during the medical examination and sends all men to the front using them like a commodity.
I located a few opportunities to help my father cross the border and pick up his visa at a US embassy. We will have someone else care for our 93-year-old grandfather after my father leaves. It seems like he won't last much longer.
This is the one time in my life when I will be ok accepting money from others because I know it will do good. I just took my mother to the US and I know it will be expensive. He will have to stay in Germany for at least four weeks, undergo a pricey examination in Frankfurt, and travel to and from Germany. Not to mention the most complicated part - leaving Ukraine.
