Eric Onesi's Quest to the PGA Tour

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Fellow Golfers,

My name is Eric Onesi and I am a professional golfer from Bear, DE and a member of Hartefeld National Golf Club. At the age of 9 years old, I was diagnosed with a blood disorder. This disorder, which involves my immune system is called ITP, Idiopathic thombocytopenic purpura and it took me out of all contact sports including my childhood passions, baseball and basketball. With the help of my parents and amazing pediatric hematologist-oncologists, I began to understand the severity of my disorder and playing contact sports.

My father was a member at Newark Country Club at the time, so I asked to accompany him to swing a club at the course. As a competitive kid growing up in sports, I immediately fell in love with the game. That day has led me to where I am now. My disorder turned out to be a blessing in disguise. My dream since that day was to play on the PGA Tour. My golf experience as a junior player and through my collegiate, amateur, and even pro status has driven my passion and love for the game to great levels. What I didn't realize is the financial obligations that accompany my quest with golf destiny.

The reason for this letter is to gain support and financial backing from my friends and acquaintances to prove to myself and my supporters that you can make dreams a reality. After coming off the best season of my career in 2017, I’ve never been so determined to making my way up the ranks to the ultimate goal of the PGA Tour.

To give you some insight of my most recent achievements, I’ve listed some highlights from my professional career.

- 2011 and 2012 - Web.com Member (competing in 8 total events with 3 cuts made)
- Member of Mackenzie Tour – PGA tour Canada for 4 consecutive years – 2015, 2016, 2017 and upcoming 2018 season. My average scoring over 112 rounds is 70.23.
- 2015 Mackenzie Tour – PGA tour Canada 9 out of 12 cuts made and finished 49th on the money list.
- 2016 Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada 3 of 11 cuts made and finished 93rd on the money list
- 2017 Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada Qualifying school runner up T-2nd at -14 ; PGA Tour Canada 10 of 12 cuts and finished 30th on the money list.
- 2018 PGA Tour Latin America Mazatlan, Mexico Q-School Medalist (-23 for four rounds, winning by 4)

One of my proudest highlights is Golf week magazine Golfweek/Saragin ranking system has ranked me the 11th biggest mover in 2017. (From 1,065th to 475th)

I am confident that the best is yet to come but I fear that without the support and financial resources demanded by playing on two tours will be difficult. There are many costs that are associated with playing golf professionally which include entry fees, airfare, rental cars, food and lodging. After successfully gaining both cards, my plan for 2018 is to play full seasons both of PGA Tour Latin America and Mackenzie Tour- PGA Tour Canada, allowing me to play year round. I have put my budget together for this upcoming season and I’m looking at $53,000.00. Any amount of support is very much appreciated.

I am hopeful and look forward to answering any questions at your convenience, to discuss the details of this opportunity.

I am a very committed and dedicated person and support from you would help me to stay focused on the main goal of not only playing on the PGA Tour, but to shine on the PGA Tour.

Most importantly, giving back is very important to me especially when my quest all started from a disorder as a kid. For all of 2018 (roughly 30 events), I plan to donate back $5 for every birdie, $10 for every eagle, and $20 for every cut made to AI DuPont Children's Hospital, a place that took great care of not only myself, but hundreds of children every day.
