EQUAL CHANCE HEADPHONES PROJECT

As many of you know, because of the increase of COVID-19 cases, Ontario schools are closing to in-person learning indefinitely. The Government of Ontario is also exploring the possibility of permanently moving learning to an online format.

This is a challenging time for many members of the community, including homeless children in temporary housing who have to now share their new "learning space" at home with 4, 5, 6 and even 7 siblings at times as well as children in low-income families who also share their space with many family members. 

 Over the past month, thanks to the generosity of many community members who stepped up to donate headphones and contributions, we have been able to deliver 1067 headphones in Ottawa alone. However, we are constantly receiving messages from parents, youth and even Principals of schools with many children who come from low-income households requesting headphones. 

We want to continue to support as many children and youth as possible, as well as their parents. Indeed, some parents expressed that they too need headphones as they have to work from home. We have also extended our program to Toronto and Hamilton with our partner Sisters in Synch. Our goal is to obtain 4 000 more headphones (headphones cost about 20$ each) for more children, youth and their parents in Ottawa, Toronto and Hamilton.
