Brittany's Epilepsy Surgery
Donation protected
At the age of 14 my sister, Brittany, had her first grand mal seizure, an event that changed her life forever. Now at the age of 22, she has battled epilepsy for the last 8 years. As her seizures increased in frequency over time, even while on multiple medications, her epilepsy has heavily affected her professional, social, and personal life in ways she never expected. Being unable to drive, having to leave a top tier college, continually having to quit jobs and trying to constantly catch up on school work after being hospiatlized. It always left her feeling uneasy and fearful of losing control of her own body.
After the usage of several medications, she became drug resistant, meaning her epilepsy could never be controlled through medicine. As a result her doctors at Montefiore Hospital have decided on Temporal Lobe Resection Surgery in early December. Facing such a life-changing opportunity like brain surgery is unbelievably frightening; however there is a sense of peace knowing that it can help her lead a happier, healthier, safer, and more independent life. In the end she cannot let such fears become the determining factor in whether she gets a new beginning to something as immesurable as life.
Due to her current job situation as a temp, she is denied disability. This money will help in paying her rent and utilities during her three month recovery.
If you can please donate, if not I would really appreciate if you reposted this to get the word out there to people who may be able to help. My sister is my everything and seeing her struggle for so long has been so difficult. While I’m away at college I unfortunately cannot physically be there, but I want to try to help in any way that I can.
Thank you so much!
